Practical and personal approach to employment mediation
At Van Opstal & Partners, we believe in an approach that fits the situation. Each labor conflict, team problem or cooperation issue is unique. That is why we always tailor our approach to what is needed. Our mediators are MfN-registered and are specially trained in the Van Opstal & Partners method: result-oriented, with an eye for people and the organizational context.
Our approach in three steps
1. First contact with our office
The process begins with a brief telephone contact with our office. We explain what mediation entails, answer practical questions and explore together whether mediation is appropriate at this time. We also discuss whether to start the process online or on-site.
2. Preliminary interviews with the mediator
Based on the situation, we choose an appropriate mediator and schedule individual preliminary interviews with those involved. These talks are intended to create safety and trust, and to get a sharp focus on what is going on. What are concerns, interests, wishes? What makes this important to someone? The mediator investigates whether there is sufficient basis to start the conversation together.
3. Mediation talks - focused on movement and resolution
If there is sufficient support, we start the mediation. Usually two conversations are sufficient. In doing so, we follow the structure of three phases:

Past: What has happened and what remains to be said?

Future: What will it take to move forward again - together or separately?

Conclusion: What agreements will be made and how will they be recorded?
All conversations are confidential. The mediator monitors the process; the participants determine the content. If there is agreement, we put agreements in writing - about cooperation or, if necessary, a careful termination of the working relationship.
